Is poverty a patented feature of any religion?

[ In reply to a senior respected person] Sir, I do not know if only muslims live in ghettos. Others too do. In my childhood, I lived with muslim class mates who were my close friends in as much as some class mates going through the evening RSS classes, but all of us were living well and also in engineering college and in IIT too. Never had any inkling that they were poor or living in ghettos. That way as many or even more non-muslims too live in ghettos. That includes brahmins . For example AR Rehman had become Muslim by choice, though he belonged to the Iyer community, one of the most revered brahmin community in Tamil Nadu. The poverty and the inability to look after parents and family attracted him to adopt. But I respect and enjoy his music. We similarly honour Bismillah Khan. We do not have any prejudices in reality. Poverty does not favour one religion. Actually in my home town , the richness of muslims increased manyfold, with money flowing from Dubai. The Hindu businessmen for...

Whither India!

We have hordes of bureaucrats keeping records and Planning Commission too compiles district wise statistics, to arrive at the most backward areas etc for special Prime Minister's assistance. Telling facts should not be a problem. But why the media also is falling in the trap making vague statements without bothering to get at the facts. What is a backward district? What are the parameters? Have some bench marks. In independent India, it is ridiculous of fight for independence as in Telengana!Elected people's representatives rule. Loss of self-respect etc and rhetoric of investors being called blood suckers , are unbelievable, but actually happening in the Republic Of India! China stopped using such words long time back. Media too is acting very strangely with no editor picking up seriously the issue and analysing to arrive at truth. Meantime emotional outbursts putting young students in the forefront , who are being used as shield by selfish political leaders, who lost elections...

UID Project of India-a few reflections!

B. RAJARAM M.Tech., IRSE., FIE., FNAE Fmr. MD Konkan Railway/ Chairman Computer Society of India, Navi Mumbai Chapter/ Member Empowerd Board,ITER Dept of Atomic Energy,Govt of India Research Scholar TO Shri Nandan Nilekani and Shri N. Vittal UiD Project Government of India Sub: Sharing a few thoughts for success of the project. A number symbol scheme for UiD for any human on the planet with a short 6 qualified-digit long string India is launching in a big way to grant a unique ID for more than a billion population. This gives an opportunity to develop a universal scheme for all humans on the planet to have one ID An attempt to is made to develop an outline for such a scheme. Identification through a set of parameters which include not only the usual appearance and place of birth, but also profiling the life and the network of relationships with other humans and society makes the picture complete and more reliable. We need for every human for identif...

Pointless debate on Pokharan II of India

With due respect to Dr Iyengar, but for Vajpayee, India would never have conducted the test. Congress always resisted any such test and even recently PM said it was a mistake. It is good that a test happened and some results came out. In nuclear explosion whether it is fission or fusion damage is adequate and for deterrence the capability is is all that is needed and not perfect yields. I always wondered in how many silos truly ICBMs which work exist in USA and erstwhile USSR, considering the military-industry collaboration as well political involvement, in the high budget programme. Hardly 2% would be real enough to help to set off the chain reaction of nuclear war.. and when the war takes place whether a large number are fake or not will be immaterial. There cannot any audit after nuclear war on the planet. With this assurance, human ingenuity is such that greed takes over and profit margins could have been boosted, putting up only some shells which rise and go back with some inert ma...

Imagining India by Nandan Nilekani reflects the honest Indian soul & undying hope of people like me!

Nilekani's thoughts are typical all of us who got their education in India, opportunity to serve either through Corporate structure or Government sector like me, sticking to ethical standards both in private and public life. Yes I too feel fulfilled with my 35 years in Indian Railway Service of Engineers my patents/ service as MD Konkan Railway very satisfying with unavoidable internal fights with bosses with different agendas- a normal occurrence in any society. But the price we pay for self interest of quite a few highly placed individuals is too steep. In government sponsored or controlled projects invariably our technology though superior to imported options, get marginalised, with procurers prevailing the decision and policy making corridors of power. Whereas our country could have become wealthier and provide the same riches which the rulers aspire for, but in longer time frame, with making India number one in technology leadership in the world, the third world mentality prev...
