How slow our administrators are in uptake about technologies!
It is not just the administrators, but also the administrators who have become consultants who with poor knowledge of engineering and technology hide behind standard de-bunkering arguments whenever they are faced with giving advice on technologies they do not know! So when Skybus standard gauge rail concept came for evaluation, first check they do is whether it was done by an advanced country and running there or not. Once they find it is not available in any other country and we will be doing ourselves by understanding the same, they will adopt the de-bunkering approach. Oh my goodness, it is not a time tested and proven system, public life is involved and so one should await more work on the issue. Actually technical analysis and reasons why it wont work is absent. If the railway gauge, wheels and bogie only are used, it is not explained by these self-proclaimed experts why it works for normal railway and why it does not work for the Skybus! The load transfer points on to the bogie also are the same! The CG of the mass being carried by the bogie is lowered, and how can it become more unsafe? Even commonsense questions are not answered. If EOT cranes are used extensively and work also in thousands and thousands of work shops, why the principle should not work for shifting a short coach of Skybus from one track to the other, also is not answered. These experts just have one single point answer, it is not done earlier by any one else, so cannot say! What is the difference between an engineer and an uneducated layman? These experts who glibly hide behind the administrative machinery, using non-sensical verbose technical jargon, comparing some rubber tyred system to the rail guided system which is Skybus, cover their incompetence wantonly dis-crediting a simple re-engineered railway system. The signal and train control system have certain laid down principles for operating the rail guided systems and if using the same principles, it is proven that the rail guided system which is Skybus, provides the stated performances, taking into account the braking distances and the location of signals, what is the problem in accepting the same? If one wants, they should show the mistakes in the calculations and argue on technical grounds. This is absent! It speaks volumes for the hollow railway experts we have in our country- mere procurers of equipment with no application of mind! Simple design problem is converted into a major research challenge, because of the ignorance of our railway experts in power and acting as consultants after retirement! After severe competitive exams we choose bright boys to man the administrative services, who sadly dont want to put even the simple commonsense based questions to these experts- but lack the integrity and commitment to look after public interest and go along with vested interests selling high cost equipment to our country. It is a sad statement for our system of governance, where Indian intellect is allowed to be wasted and not used for the benefit of the common poor man who trustingly handed over control of his life, by electing and giving away power to some of us, who seem to be indifferent once in power!
