Democarcy is for courageous & vigilant people- case of Telengana agitation has much deeper implications!

We basically lack some courageous leaders within Telengana who can refute with facts and figures the lies spread amongst students and villagers. Even educated classes like lawyers speak the same irrational voilent language of seeing blood and butchering from the steps of High Court, saying they had been oppressed! Not a single sane voice around!

It is amazing the Nazi type of atmosphere overnight in Hyderabad! We are truly a fragile society. Such meekness in intellectuals leaving the stage to people who only speak in rhetoric and emotional outbursts , further calling it as the most sensitive issue!! In what way I never understood. What is the problem?

Self rule is talked about as if it is an independence movement from some foreign rulers!. Independence from whom? Are people not electing their rulers in this area? Even lawyers joining the chorus is ridiculous to say the least and then the media with very young journalists with wide eyes and loud noises creating cacophony with jumping cameras with close ups of some shouting rough looking young men all made up for some frenzied show on the small screen. The anchors further added fuel to the fire suggesting provocative words to be put in questions to the harried political leaders facing cameras left right and top. Utterances were extracted. No one seem to know the problem except talk of very sensitive feelings, a demand of 53 years, aspirations of people.... all emotional and of the third rate B class serials being aired in TVs now days lapped up by our citizens.

Facts and figures the State refused to put out and there seem to be no one to present a case that for the past 53 years the various mechanisms put in place have actually achieved the objective and the issue of statehood is a non issue, if it is based on development deficit, or power sharing issues politically. All the major important portfolios like Irrigation and Home and others are with Telengana leaders only.

The state had enough time to use the print press as well as electronic media to take initiative and present the developmental statistics and social sector improvements using facts and figure and the Ministers from Telengana as spokespersons giving out the data. Actually more than a month was available before the hunger strike threat was put in to effect. The Government simply chose Police instead of using the soft skills of educating themselves and communicating with their constituencies. In a democracy communication with people is important. State has miserably failed to anticipate and remained smug and complacent.

Constant strident allegations of Telengan being robbed of its wealth by investors from Andhra got prominent coverage by the media. Not a single time a question was put how?

De facto the capital was taken over and any one saying other than support for the separation stood banished from the city.

Nazi methods were in full swing. Freedom of speech was practically curtailed. The Government also acted sheepishly and defensively with all elected members deserting and even ministers defying and resigning en-mass.

It is truly scary that in India after decades of independence such a situation can be created so rapidly and organised so well with a few electronic media and pseudo intellects and Professors joining a few disgruntled political leaders who lost elections. All the more surprising to see all the normal balanced peoples representatives who won elections too , lose their confidence and immediately rush to join those who actually failed to win earlier. The Parliamentary democracy has been made a laughing stock.

It is so conspicuous by absence that there is not a single leader of such stature and integrity who can courageously walk in to the turmoil and tell people to behave. They presented a picture of being afraid and hiding behind some screens of inaccessibility and avoid saying anything.

What is the problem of AP government in openly publishing the figures for various districts the development year wise on the web and distribute the reports for the status of development both infrastructure and social sectors. On a regular basis every quarter this can be done. We have hordes of bureaucrats and a Planning Ministry too..but of no use. Information dissemination and effective communication strategy are absent.

What is the so called emotional issue of self rule after our country has become independent and a Republic too with equal voting rights to all?

With this logic Prime Minsiter Manmohan Singh should not have gone to Assam to be a Rajya Sabha Member.

Since when open talk of creating blood bath and severing body parts, and chasing away groups of citizens from their homes, attacks on those who do not agree to what you say have become issues to be supported by lawyers, experienced senior political leaders, professors, students all educated personnel apart from even social workers? It is shocking to see the leader and head to protect citizens' rights herself chasing and shouting at another citizen of the country, denying him of any basic rights as promised in our constitution.

Why so much silence on the part of simple honest Indians who are allowing this nonsense taking place with not a single word of criticism and advice to restore sanity.

What we have witnessed and continue to witness is a successful testing of waters in our country by some very clever foreign powers, to completely expose our lack of any sound foundations of our democracy and show how simple it is to make it collapse in minutes and hours with no resistance.

The freedom of press and the Freedom of individual enshrined in our constitution have been abused thoroughly and suppressed completely respectively.

This a dangerous threat to our Republic. it is a wake up call if Indians really want to save their independence.

The issue of Telengana state is actually a non-issue. Our Central Government and the States are exposed for their poor intelligence, absence of anticipation, hollowness and lack of leadership to face an adversity, rationally and decisively with courage. Disinformation is a danger every government should be able to tackle with vigilance and quickly, before peace gets shattered.

The future looks scary even for the most optimistic.

I will feel assured only when a Sammaikya Andhra group is able to peacefully conduct a public rally within Hyderabad and Warangal and Telengana group conducts a rally presenting their view in Vijayawada & Kadapa. followed by a debate with facts and figures.

Damn it, this is our country and the nation belongs to all of us! Eternal vigilance is the price we have to pay to protect democracy. The leaders of this agitation actually have mounted a serious attack on democracy.

The day in the Assembly our representatives are able to rationally debate the issues with proper figures and facts and vote without hitting each other and abuse within seconds of starting a dissent talk, is what I look forward to be a healthy and strong democracy.

State must be seen to be strong to command respect; both moral as well as physical. On both counts we have exposed huge chinks.
