My understanding of purpose of life...a brief outline!
Let me state what little I learned in recent years from listening to lectures by acharyas with 20 to 30 years of study in Sanskrit . They spoke in Kannada . Else those web links would help you.
We go to beginning of one cycle. Every cycle is 31,104,000 CR solar years. Or 3110400 b yrs. That corresponds to 100 Brhma years. One second in Satya lokam of Brahma is equivalent to 100,000 solar years.
Entire Universe at this beginning of cycle is I'm form of sub atomic particle ocean called pralaya samudram. It is not water . just a huge infinite size subatomic particles waiting to to be transformed
Only Sri Narayana is present in a state of yoga nidra ...better not to try to imagine form by our limited physical minds ! But infinite sized , infinite energy form. No beginning nor end !
The only other Akshara Purusha, that is the one which does not get perished in pralayam , is Sri Durga ( Sri Lakshmi swarupa) in that dark night of pralaya night .
One day of 12 hrs of Brahma is 432 cr yrs and 12 hr night of pralaya is 432 cr years. But these are pralayams in which the Brahma and other devatas remain in sleep not destroyed. Rest just vanish in to state of rest within the vast udaram of Sri Vishnu.
Bhagavad Gita Chapter 8 Verse 19
Again and again, when Brahma's day arrives, all living entities come into being, and with the arrival of Brahma's night they are helplessly annihilated.
Bhagavad Gita Chapter 8 Verse 20
Yet there is another unmanifest nature, which is eternal and is transcendental to this manifested and unmanifested matter. It is supreme and is never annihilated. When all in this world is annihilated, that part remains as it is.
Bhagavad Gita Chapter 8 Verse 21
That which the Vedantists describe as unmanifest and infallible, that which is known as the supreme destination, that place from which, having attained it, one never returns -- that is My supreme abode.
This should be one's objective for having been granted this physical sadhana sareeram.
But mahaprlayam which occurs at end of 100 Brahma years, every one from Brahma downwards and physical universe too all get destroyed, or transformed into sub atomic particles. The jeevas in these devatas attain their mukti state never to return back to next creation.
But those totally tamasic and never to return back also dumped in to andhatah tamassu where only dukkham without relief is experienced eternally.
Now
But Self luminated Sri Narayana is now praised by Shri Durga through Shruti Gita
http://www.astrojyoti.com/srutigita.htm
At the beginning of the 100 yr Brahma life.
One can read this. It is part of 11th skanda in Sri MadBhagavatham.
The purpose of this prayer by Sri Lakshmi is to start creation to benefit many satwic jeevas who can have sadhana bodies , to change their current inert useless state to lively ever happy state of existence by getting over effects of burdens of infinite lives of karmas
The jeevas are infinite too and they get to life only when the supreme Lord powers them.
Bhagavad Gita Chapter 8 Verse 9
One should meditate upon the Supreme Person as the one who knows everything, as He who is the oldest, who is the controller, who is smaller than the smallest, who is the maintainer of everything, who is beyond all material conception, who is inconceivable, and who is always a person. He is luminous like the sun, and He is transcendental, beyond this material nature.
And sat, chit ananda swarupa...nirdukha anandanubhava swarupa is God one should meditate upon. Then same attributes will occur to jeeva too to his level of eligibility.
The process is quite complex as described in Bhagavatham. First Sri Narayana assumes four forms Vasudeva, Sankarshna, Pradyumna and Aniruddha. Sri Lakshmi too assumes matching forms Maya, Jaya, Kriti and Shanti.
Then the various forms of devatas emanate from them.
Sri Narayana from nabhi creates Brahma. He finds dark space all round and does not know what to do. His prayer to hep him does not cause Sri Narayana to appear. But after many years, he hears only one sound , the very first sound "tapa" ... directing him to do tapam and find for himself. The Brahma for million year time scale does it and receives Veda knowledge.
Then Sri Narayana who is inside him creates the visible world we see.
Sri Narayana does three types of shrishti. Takes avatara forms --manifests himself in various avataras, "vari" shrishti, that is billions of own images as if sun reflecting in water, which enter jeevas and power them ...the reflection of this bimba residing inside jeeva, is now on as jeevaswarupa .. both residing in hard shell covering called Linga sareeram.
This narayana swaraupa inside is vasudeva. Present in all living jeevas.
The linga sareeram is covered by Pradyumna sphere of influence, which further is given a sukshma sareeram formed by Aniruddha. Then stula sareeram is formed , here too Aniruddha spreads every part of this physical body . The sukshma sareeram supported by Aniruddha is of subatomic size and resides at heart mid heart, about 10 in from navel, just below bottom of neck. Hridaya kamalam is expression where Lord resides and where we are expected to seek .
Fundamentally
1. This world we see is real but not permanent.
2. We are real and permanent as Lord Narayana but always different from Him even when we get mukti , that is when we are granted liberation from this manifest/unmanifest cyclic world and attain abode of Sri Narayana.
3. Sri Narayana is full of Ananda emanating from supreme jnana and luminous by Himself granting all those in His abode same type of supreme bliss where no duhkham occurs but again degree of Ananda varies from one jeeva to other based on their own sadhana quality. But they are free from doshams like anger, jealousy, greed, and are no more bound by linga deham and free to move different sukshma lokams in the eternal manifest world.
4. Each jeeva has own swarupa swabhava called varna by Veda , and again by birth get in each janma a jati like brahmin, Kshatriya etc. The swarupa swabhava varna is material. Because of poorva karma one may be born in different yoni ams a brahmin by swabahava could be shudra by birth today! Just because of birth in brahmin family one is not brahmin. Brahmin is the one who constantly meditates and seeks the satyam that is the sat, chit ananda swarupam. A shudra swabhava is truly honorable because by nature he serves fellow humanity to live comfortably and practice own sadhana. Narada was shudra in previous births .
5. Jada prakriti is different from jeevas ....animals and other 8.4 million species of life forms except human are not fit to progress because they are not given tools to acquire the knowledge of the Supreme. Bhagavatha recognizes life in plants. Next stage for them is prani or animal. Then after passing through all these stages human form is granted to a jeeva. In all these too Sri Narayana is present but the gradation occurs ...in the sense a dog has Narayana inside but not worship worthy compared to a guru with supreme knowledge! The degree of transcendental knowledge one has decides the gradation.
6. Unless viraagya , that is disinterest in material possessions and physical pleasures occur , a jeeva will not be fit to receive inner portal opening for journey of realization of the subatomic size world within
7. For that one should be able to be free from anger , greed kaam of adharma nature. Kaama of dharmic nature is virtue. Karma inevitable but so long as it is not for personal benefit and done as seva of Lord Narayana , then it becomes nishkama karma and the jeeva is initiated into the inner journey by invisible but ever present Vayu devaru or Sri Hanuman. Without that grace no one can cross the barrier of prakriti bamdhana.
8. Most of Veda knowledge and Upanishads have hidden purports allowing wrong interpretation by those with tamasic nature and unfit to get real knowledge. That can be identified by their arrogant dependence on own rational analysis and refusal to surrender and attachment to material gains.
9. Narayana has no love or hatred for any jeeva. The karma phala is granted without any favor or discrimination. No one can escape karma phalam.
10. Without guru anugraha impossible to find one's way and unless one with full jnana and understanding after due questioning and own contemplative thinking , experience the supreme truth , the real bhakti and surrender to Lord Krishna cannot take place. Moodha bhakti is not right.
11. There is only one God and that is only Sri Vishnu as per Upanishads and Vedas. Purusha always means Sri Vishnu. Sankaracharya too interpreted clearly Purusha is Sri Vishnu.
12. All avataras of Sri Vishnu are ever existing and have same degree of poorna presence. There is no difference.
13. Every sound you hear, in any language or any animal cry or Bird chirping too only extoll Lord Narayana! Every living being you see is Sri Narayana and never be harsh. Even if some one abuses you, take it as result of your karma and the abuser is following Sri Narayana prerana! When it becomes matter of dharma , then fight for dharma not to for own benefit. Even in rakshasa Narayana is there but driving him to act as per his swabhava ...tamasic.
14. This swabahava of jeeva too is anaadi and jeevas are like seeds with different swabahava arising out of different combinations of satwic, rajasic and tamasic gumas. Lord Narayana gibes all same opportunities when brought in to world. Prahlad is rakshas bit with satwic nature has become!e great Hari bhakta . Not his father.
Well Gayatri and Omkara recited with understanding can open portals to understand sat, chit ananda. Bit with viragya . the greatest wealth one can have is viraagya.
Nishkaama karma , activity as service to Sri Krishna is route.
What ever I wrote , is just a very tiny subatomic size knowledge I think I learnt from hearing from various scholars.
Incomplete but true to my best of knowledge and belief.
